Postdoctoral Fellow - Engineering
January 6, 2018
MBARI seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow for a two-year position working on the development of robust, automated tracking algorithms using stereo imagery for autonomous underwater vehicle missions in the ocean midwater. The position will involve training machine learning (ML) algorithms using MBARI’s 25-year, manually annotated, underwater video database, integrating ML-enabled tracking with ROV and AUV control algorithms, and testing the developed algorithms on underwater vehicles in Monterey Bay. The candidate should have a background in machine learning, computer vision, and robotics; experience working in the field is desirable. More information about the position can be found here.
Summer Undergraduate Researcher
The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute’s Summer Internship Program provides an opportunity for talented college students (undergraduate and graduate) and educators to come to MBARI for a period of 10 weeks to work on a specific project under MBARI staff supervision. With state-of-the-art facilities and equipment that includes research vessels, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) to explore the deep ocean, MBARI’s Summer Internship Program offers teachers and students unique opportunities to be involved in advanced research and development projects. The focus of the MBARI internship is on the intern’s professional development—learning research techniques and improving communication and collaboration skills. Each intern will have an MBARI mentor who will supervise a specific project. If you're interested in working on a project with the Ocean Inspiration Lab, contact Kakani Katija for more details. More information about the program can be found here.
MBARI Postdoctoral Fellow
The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute invites applications each year for several postdoctoral fellowships in the fields of biological, chemical, and physical oceanography, marine geology, and engineering. Fellowships may require occasional trips to sea. Awards are typically for two years.
